Did you know that this year Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday? That means there really isn’t an excuse for you not to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Valentine’s Day (unless of course you or your valentine is out of town).

I know for my husband and I, Valentine’s Day easily gets pushed to the back burner. When we first started dating and even when we were first married, Valentine’s Day was a big deal, but now that we have been married for a while and have a couple of kiddos, we haven’t made it as important as it once was. While I know that we aren’t the only couple like this, I also know that celebrating Valentine’s Day is something that all couples should make an effort to do.
Below are a few ways that you and your love can celebrate the national day of love together:
- Traditional Date Night – Making reservations at a fancy restaurant followed by plans to go see a movie or possibly even a night of dancing can be a nice Valentine’s Day date for couples. This is especially true for the couples who have been together a long time or those who enjoy the simpler things in life as this date doesn’t require a lot of special planning and can even be put together at the last minute
- Ice Skating – The cool thing about Valentine’s Day is that it happens in February. Christmas is over yet the cold weather still remains, leaving plenty of fun seasonal things to do. One of my favorite Valentine’s Day dates was when my husband and I went out for a nice dinner and then spent the evening at the ice skating rink. Neither one of us was very good, which is probably why it was so much fun. We were holding hands as we held each other up (and sometimes pulled each other down) and by the end of the night we were laughing much like we did when we first started dating. If you haven’t went ice skating for Valentine’s Day, try it this year
- Romantic Night In – If you don’t feel like going anywhere this Valentine’s Day, then why not make arrangements for the kids to stay with their grandparents, close friend or another relative, if only for a few hours, so you and your love can spend some quiet time together at home. My husband and I also have done this before too. I spent the afternoon preparing a nice meal and once dinner was done, we had fun making cheesecake stuffed chocolate covered strawberries together for dessert. It was a blast!
It doesn’t really matter how you and your partner choose to spend Valentine’s Day, what matters is that you make the time to make each other feel needed and loved. It’s too easy for us to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget about the things that matter most. Holidays like Valentine’s Day give us a reason to slow down and realign our priorities.
