First Communion Ceremony

First Communion Ceremony

The First Communion ceremony is one of the most important ceremonies held by members of the Catholic Church. Before you can take part in other catholic rituals, you have to go through your first communion. Usually, First Communion ceremonies are done with children ranging from ages 5 to 8. However, this is not always the case. The Catholic Church takes communion at every mass, but the First Communion ceremony is usually done outside of the traditional mass service.

Children in the First Communion ceremony have been through extensive studies teaching them about Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us. Another way to put it is that they have learned about the “mystery of Jesus Christ.” The ceremony can only be performed by an ordained priest or diocesan bishop. Once a person has been through the First Communion, they are able to participate in other Catholic traditions.

While the First Communion ceremony itself is the Catholic tradition, the clothing worn by children at the ceremony is not taken lightly either. To symbolize purity, the material is always white. Girls are to wear white communion dresses with gloves and a veil, and boys wear a white dress shirt. Many families invest large amounts of money in the clothing for their child’s First Communion. However, it does not have to be that way. It is quite possible to find the perfect dress or outfit for your son or daughter’s big day at a reasonable price. Shopping online is one of the best ways to accomplish this. Many online childrens formal wear retailers, such as www.kidsformal.com offer discounts and incentives for ordering online. So, it’s possible to find a great communion dress or outfit that is also high-quality, without spending a fortune.

Clothing by the child is often white to symbolize purity, with boys wearing white dress shirts and girls donning white dresses and veils.

Family Picture Ideas on What to Wear

Family Picture Ideas on What to Wear

The majority of families have family pictures done every two or three years…some even do it every year, depending on how close the family is. Once the family picture date is selected, the most common dilemma families face is deciding what to wear for the pictures. Honestly, the location and the attire for the pictures are critical for family pictures, because they (and the people) make the picture.

As far as family picture clothing goes, your options are endless. You can have everyone dress up for the pictures, wear matching outfits, have color-coordinated pictures, go casual or a number of other things. The decision is entirely yours, but before you choose you should consider the following:

  • Your Family:  First, consider your family as a whole. What type of attire best represents the individuals that make up your family? Do your family members enjoy dressing up for special occasions or are they more laid back and casual? You want your family pictures to represent who your family is.
  • Comfort Level:  Another consideration is how comfortable the clothing is that you are considering. While some people are comfortable wearing a formal suit and tie, others may not be.
  • Cost:  The clothing worn for family pictures does not have to be expensive or brand new in order to look good. In fact, most people don’t think about how much the clothing cost when they are looking at family pictures of their friends. Therefore, take the cost of clothing into consideration.
  • Location and Theme:  Finally, consider the location and theme of your family pictures. For instance, if you want your family pictures to be taken with an old family barn in the background, would it look odd to have everyone in formal dresses and tuxedos? Or…would that be a unique theme for your family picture? It’s all in how you look at it!

Regardless of what you have your family wear for pictures, make sure everyone has fun. The best family pictures are taken when everyone is truly having fun!

Easter Activity Ideas

Easter Activity Ideas

As you know, Easter is right around the corner. For most of us with young children, Easter means attending the morning Easter service at our home church and taking the little ones Easter egg hunting afterwards. However, there are many other families who have outgrown the Easter egg hunting days as their kids are “too old” for that. So, exactly how should these families celebrate Easter? Below are a few Easter activity ideas for families to do in lieu of (or after) Easter egg hunting.

  • Host a BBQ – More than likely, you and your children have friends who have also outgrown the traditional Easter activities. Therefore, why not make a big day out of it by inviting them all over and hosting your own Easter BBQ? Eating doesn’t have to be the only thing on the agenda for your party. Playing games, watching movies and swimming (depending on where you live) can also be on the “to-do” list.
  • Go to the Movies – Going to the movies is one of my favorite pastimes, but I especially love to go on a holiday. Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter are all fun times to go. I’m not quite sure what it is about going to the movie theater on a holiday, but it’s just special. This is especially true if you are going with your friends and/or family. Plus, it always seems like there are good movies always coming out on holidays.
  • Go to an Indoor Water Park – Who doesn’t enjoy getting a little “wet n’ wild?” If your area has an indoor water park nearby, take the whole family on Easter. If you live in a place like Florida, California, Hawaii or somewhere where it’s warm and sunny year around, go to the beach or an outdoor water park instead. This is a great way to spend Easter afternoon. It ensures everyone will have fun and be worn out by dinner time!

As you can see, there are several things you and your family can do on Easter aside from hunting Easter eggs. All you have to do is think outside the box. The ideas above are just a few of the MANY activities available for families on Easter! To get the most out of Easter 2018, start planning now and don’t wait until the last minute or you might find yourself sitting at home watching television again. Get out and about! Make this Easter one the entire family will remember!

Don’t Be Afraid of Color

Don’t Be Afraid of Color

Have you ever noticed that more and more homes are being decorated in neutral tones that can have a “blah” effect? Well, the same is true for a lot of weddings and other formal events too. It appears that people are increasingly becoming more afraid of using color to make statements at these events for fear that others will frown upon the color combination. You may even have a tendency to tone the color combinations down yourself when you are planning an event…or even picking out your child’s clothing. Do everything in your power to not be sucked into this pitfall!

There is a reason we are surrounded by beautiful colors. They are here to be enjoyed. While it’s perfectly acceptable to plan a wedding with browns, whites and creams, these types of colors can be bland if there isn’t another color “thrown” in with them. Brown is one of those colors that almost anything can go with because it’s a warm and neutral color. Therefore, consider using yellow, orange, blue/turquoise, pink or green as an accent color to brighten up your event.

If you are bit more daring, consider leaving the neutral colors out of your wedding or other important event. For instance, have you considered pairing up plum and fern together? While you may think these colors will clash, they actually compliment each other perfectly. Other fun combinations include: red, yellow and orange/ purple and red/ and turquoise, pink and white.

Your options really are endless when it comes to color combinations. Just remember not to be intimidated by color. You’ll have more fun when you incorporate bright, bold and passionate colors into your event. Even those who have to wear the colors will like break from the popular bland and boring colors!
