Turquoise: A True Gem of a Color

There are some colors that just make you happy and feel good. Turquoise is one of those colors. It is a mixture of blue and green, and sometimes has a yellowish tint to it as well. Turquoise got its name after the gem, Turquoise. Turquoise, the gem, has a long history dating back long before the birth of Christ. The Egyptians from the First Dynasty mined the stone from the Sinai Peninsula. It was also discovered by the Persians, in the area now known as Iran. As many know, Turquoise is heavily mined in the United States today. It is prevalent in many southern states including Arizona, Nevada and California. This beautiful gem is used primarily for jewelry and other fashion products.

The color Turquoise is just as beautiful as the gem and is also primarily used in fashion. However, it can also be used as an accent color in home décor as well. When one sees the shimmering blue-green color known as turquoise, it is hard to take your eyes off of it. The color has a tendency to make us feel happier and uplifted. Perhaps, this is why it is a popular choice for summer weddings. Retailers such as sell many turquoise flower girl dresses every spring and summer. The color is just fun, happy and uplifting – truly making it a gem of a color!…

Princess Birthday Parties

I know this seems like an odd blog topic to have on the website, but bear with me here. Birthday parties are events that every child looks forward to, especially little girls. Young girls really are a lot like young women – not only do they like to entertain people and fuss over their clothing, but they also love to plan events and dress up too. Many little girls will spend months planning the perfect birthday party with friends.

If you have a little girl who loves to dress up and plan parties with friends, why not do a princess themed birthday party this year? Many people are doing these for their little girls. In fact, a cousin of mine planned one for her 5 year old little girl. She helped her little girl plan a fun princess birthday party where she was able to invite 3-4 of her best friends.

Of course, they had a princess themed birthday cake and opened presents at home, but the main event was after the “big” party with her “bestest” friends. After all the other guests had left (mostly family members) all the little girls got dressed up in their princess gowns (full-skirted formal dresses) and went out with their mothers for a night out on the town. They got to go downtown and take a real horse-drawn carriage ride and then went out to a fancy restaurant for dinner and finished the evening with sundaes.

If you have a little girl around the age of 4 or 5, this may be one of the most fun and memorable birthday parties you can have for her. It doesn’t have to be expensive, especially when you buy her real princess dress at!…

Hair Options for Young Girls

Picking out a formal dress for your little one to wear to a special occasion is only part of the planning. Yes, the dress is the most important part, but once you’ve got the dress, you have to decide the accessories like tights or no tights, shoes, dress socks, bolero jacket, etc. Finally, you will have to determine what you will do with your little girl’s hair when she is wearing her new dress. Below are a few ideas to help your creative thoughts take flight.

Braids – Braids look great on little girls in formal dresses. Sometimes a full French-braid looks the best with the dress and at other times a small braid hanging with the rest of the free-flowing hair is all that is needed. Braids are just great, simple ways to dress up a little one’s head of hair to complement a dress. Curls – If your little one has natural curly hair, then let them show! Too many parents try to straighten natural curly hair because they think it looks too unruly. However, when your daughter has on a special occasion dress, natural curls are sure to bring out the best in it. Now, if your daughter’s hair is thick and curly, then by all means, suppress some of it with a cute clip or headband. Just don’t be afraid to let those curls show! Straight – For those of you with girls who don’t have naturally curly hair, using a flat iron to make the hair a little straighter is a great idea. Straight hair creates a very simple look, but it can easily be accented with sparkling clips, tiaras, floral bands and even ribbons. Up – Depending on the occasion, wearing hair up is an excellent option. Now, most of the time, you will…

The Making of a Great Flower Girl Dress for a Spring Wedding

If you or someone you know is in the midst of planning a spring wedding, then the task of finding the perfect flower girl dress is going to have to be “tackled” at some point. While it isn’t one of the most important details of the big day, it is definitely one that some time and thought needs to be put into before it’s made. Below are a few helpful tips for choosing the right flower girl dress for a spring wedding:

Sleeveless: Depending on where the wedding is going to be held, the weather will vary for spring as some places experience warm temperatures and others are still a little chilly out. However, spring is an exciting time because it brings with it the promise of a “new earth.” The trees, bushes and flowers are all beginning to bud (and some are even blooming) and the grass is starting to turn green again. Therefore, the flower girl dress should match this time of year and its promise of warmer weather to come. Selecting a sleeveless dress is the ideal way to do that. If the weather is still a little chilly and the wedding is being held outdoors, then selecting a light bolero jacket is the perfect solution! Sheer Accents: Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a flower girl dress for a spring wedding is material the dress is made from. It’s not a good idea to choose one with a thick and heavy material as those are better suited for fall and winter weddings. The light and airy look that sheer layered dresses provide are perfect for spring weddings because they create a look that compliments the spring weather better.

Color: Obviously, color is a big deal when choosing a flower girl dress for spring…

Flower Girl Dresses in Spring

As we move into the new year, many of us are beginning to look forward in anticipation of Spring and the warmer weather it brings. With all of the beautiful changes that occur throughout spring (in nature), it is only natural for many couples to make the decision to get married during this wonderful season. While spring is a great time for new beginnings to take place, it can be a little tricky for brides to prepare for, especially when they begin thinking about the little ones in their wedding. Below are a few tips for brides to consider when choosing the flower girl’s attire for their spring weddings.

Wedding Venue – The top thing to think about in regards to the flower girl in a spring wedding is the wedding’s venue. Where will the wedding take place? For example, if the wedding is going to be held in a small church, brides need to think about how much room the flower girl will have to move around. If the aisle is narrow and there isn’t much standing room at the front of the church, then it would make sense for a flower girl to wear a dress with a simple skirt. However, if the aisles are wide and space isn’t an issue, brides should feel free to choose a dress with a full skirt for their flower girls, if that is what they desire. Weather – Brides-to-be should also take into consideration the type of weather they most likely will encounter on their wedding day when choosing their flower girls’ dresses. This is especially true for brides trying to plan outdoor spring weddings. Brides who live in colder climates, may want to find dresses with matching bolero jackets so their flower girls don’t get cold and, subsequently, sick. However,…
