Kids Formal Wear: Should you Rent or Buy?

We are all aware of how expensive formal wear is for adults, but have you priced children’s formal wear lately? It can be just as expensive to buy flower girl dresses as it is to buy bridesmaids dresses. Weddings are not the only events that require formal attire for kids. What about little boys suits for special occasions like Easter and Christmas or communion dresses and pageant dresses? The good news is that you have a couple of options if you need formal wear for your little ones: either rent or buy it. So, which is best for you?

  • Renting – There are several advantages for renting kids formal wear, but perhaps the biggest is convenience. You simply bring your child in for measurements, pick out the style from an in-store selection, leave and then return to pick it up a day or two before the big event. Then, when it’s over, you simply return it to the store. You don’t even have to worry about washing it! A couple other advantages include paying a low one-time fee for something your child is will probably wear once before he or she out grows it and, of course, you don’t have to store it.
  • Buying – While renting sounds great, buying has its own advantages. Many take comfort in knowing their child is the first one to wear her flower girl dress. This means there will be no hidden damage, odor or stains on the dress. Also, if you give yourself plenty of time to browse before the big event, you will most likely be able to find the formal attire you’re looking for, for less than it would cost to rent! Shopping online at stores like Kidsformal are great places to find bargains. Usually there’s a larger selection of colors and styles online too. And, most stores offer great promotions for shopping with them online. Examples of promotions you may find at KidsFormal.com include free shipping after you spend so much, a 30 day flexible return policy or a special discount for placing an order online. If you are planning a wedding, you may even be able find the perfect ring bearer pillow and flower girl basket, as well.

There are many things to take into consideration when choosing whether to rent or buy kids formal wear. It is important to weigh the pros and cons of each to make the best decision for you and your family.

Every Boy Needs At Least One Suit

When people think of little boys, they normally think of trucks, dirt, worms, mud pies and a variety of other things. These are, after all, what little boys love! So, naturally, mothers everywhere stock up on clothing such as jeans, shorts, t-shirts and a handful of other clothing made to get dirty. Boys should have clothing like that, but it is also necessary that parents purchase boys formal wear for those special occasions.

One of the most basic and fundamental items of formal wear that every boy needs is a suit. Suits for boys come in a wide range of sizes today. Parents have so many options today when shopping for boys suits. There are infant suits, toddler suits, first communion suits and so many more. If you don’t have a large selection of formal suits on a local level, try shopping online. You are certain to find a large variety of styles, colors and sizes. There are many companies that have extended their formal wear services to online consumers. A couple of websites worth checking out include KidsFormal.com are great places to shop.

Many parents are skeptical and don’t see a reason why they need to keep a suit in their son’s closet, especially when they grow so quickly and boys suits can be expensive. Well, there are many occasions where it is appropriate for little boys to be dressed in a suit. A few examples are First Communion, weddings, funerals, formal parties or social gatherings and holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

Formal wear for boys can be expensive, but there are many bargains to be found with online merchants. Many online merchants even offer special discounts for placing an online order whether it’s free shipping or a small percentage off your online order. These online discounts can make suits and other formal wear inexpensive for you.

Getting Your Money Out of Little Suits

At one point or another, we all have to purchase a boy’s suit for our son. The problem a lot of us have with this is that boys’ suits and tuxedos cost a lot of money when you consider how quickly the little guys grow out of them. In most cases, we buy the suits for a special occasion and don’t put our little boys in them again after the event is over. However, there are a few things you can do to get a little extra money out of the boys’ suits you have to purchase.

  • Order a size bigger. Yes, I know you are ordering the suit for a specific event and don’t necessarily want it to be too big. However, if you order the suit a size bigger, the pants and the jacket should both be a little too long, but still fit decently around the body. All you have to do is take the suit in to be altered. Have the alterations person hem it so that when your son grows, you can simply let out the hem and he can reuse the suit.
  • Make it a point to wear the suit to other events. If you really want to get your money out of the boys’ suit you’ve just purchased, make sure your son wears it more than once. While you may have purchased it specifically for a wedding, there’s no reason your son can’t wear the suit to church…especially for special events like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas services. You can also have your son wear the suit to various school events also (school programs, recitals, “meet the players” sport night, etc.).
  • Keep it for later. If you haven’t finished having children, then store those expensive suits! You never know if your next one will be a boy. If it is, then you may be able to avoid buying another suit by saving your oldest son’s formal suits. This will definitely ensure that you get your money out of the suit!
  • Pass it on or sell it. If you know that you’re finished having children, then consider passing the suit on down to someone with a little boy who can’t afford to buy a brand new one. If you don’t know anyone who needs a little boy’s suit, then take a picture of it and post it on Facebook or Craigslist and sell it. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to get some of your money back once you’re finished with it, right?
