It happens to all of us. It’s really unavoidable and many of us don’t have a clue what to do about it. I’m talking about all of the food we have left over after our holiday meals. If you’re like me, you hate keeping it all because that means you’re going to continue eating it…and let’s face it, while it’s good, most of it is filled with unhealthy calories that does nothing but hurts our figures! So, what exactly are you going to do with all of the extra holiday food? Below are some ideas that you may find helpful.
Freeze It. If you have a lot of extra side dishes left after the holiday meal is over and your guests have left, consider freezing it. Why would you want to freeze it? It makes for easy meal preparation in the future. For instance, if you always fix a nice lunch after church on Sundays, then you could pull out the frozen side dishes in a week or two after church while the kids are changing out of their church dresses and/or suits, reheat it in the microwave and serve with your Sunday dinner! Instead of worrying about an entire meal, all you have to mess with is the main dish. Give It Away. It doesn’t matter where you live, there is always a family in need who won’t be eating well during the holidays. If you have enough food left over, fix several plates and take to a family that you know is in need. If you don’t know where to take it, contact a local church, homeless shelter or other organization that helps struggling individuals.
